The project
Murray State seeks to build a 57,000 sq ft state of the art nursing education center on the ardmore campus. The facility will house simulation labs and classrooms for nursing education through Murray State and our partners. The bottom floor will have a large atrium with a capacity for college and community events of up to 400 people, student service offices, lounge and dining space and lecture halls. The second floor will feature collaborative study spaces, classrooms, simulation labs and offices for nursing faculty. This project will require $25,458,148 in funding and create 38 new positions to train 300 nurses each year.
The Mission
Murray State College will construct the Southern Oklahoma Nursing Education Center to be the premier hub for nursing education in southern Oklahoma.
The IMPACT
There are only 7.5 nurses per 1,000 Oklahoma residents, ranking the state 46th in the nation for nurses per capita, according to data compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The sonec will train 300 new nurses each year. since 2020, 85% of murray state nursing graduates are practicing in the region.
